In 1952, at his kitchen table, Saul Bernard Marantz built the very first ‘Audio Conselette’. A revolutionary preamplifier, it was equipped with every equalisation curve necessary to correct for the inconsistent recording characteristics of the time. His wife and friends encouraged to make more and the first 100 units sold rapidly. Demand increased and before long he had a backlog of orders and in 1953 he founded the Marantz Company in Queens, New York.

From those humble beginnings, Marantz went from strength to strength. Many legendary and award winning preamplifiers and power amplifiers followed the original ‘Audio Consolette’. In the late 1960’s came the Model 18, the very first Marantz stereo receiver. This model ushered in the Golden Era of Marantz 22xx receivers, many of which are still highly sought after by vintage audio enthusiasts. In the 1982 Marantz released the CD-63, their first of many award winning CD player designs. The company would go on to actively support the high resolution SACD format in their unending quest for delivering more music to listener’s ears. Marantz also became an industry leader in the multi-channel home theater surround sound market. Today their AV receivers are some of the best sounding designs on the market.
