Large analog VU meters dominate the impeccably finished front panel of the Luxman L-509Z. Not only do they give the amplifier a wonderful retro vintage charm, but they also give you a mesmerizing visualization of your music. A bold red LED volume level readout allows you to easily see the volume setting from the across the room. This portion of the display can be set to turn off after the adjustment is made, returning you back to the analog glow of the meters.

As you would expect from a precision Japanese-made instrument, the fit and finish of the Luxman L-509Z is second to none. The soft satin finish of the precision machined metal front panel is set perfectly against the brushed aluminum controls. You can feel the exquisite precision in the movement of the volume control, the fluidity of the secondary control knobs, and the solidity of the control buttons.

The quality of build extends to the top - and bottom - of the Luxman L-509Z. On top, an ultra-thick aluminum top panel features a luxurious hairline finish. Each ventilation hole is machined, one at a time, to ensure proper ventilation of the components within. The entire unit rests on four cast iron isolation feet, designed to minimize unwanted external vibrations within the amplifier to ensure the purest musical performance possible.

The volume control is the most important and most used function on an amplifier. To feed the high-end power amplifier in the Luxman L-509Z with a signal at a suitable listening level, a precise circuit is required. This circuit must attenuate the signal without any degradation. It must also offer a wide and finely graduated range of levels to allow you to dial in the perfect level. The LECUA-EX system in the L-509Z features a newly developed weighted rotation mechanism married to a highly precise rotary encoder. Together these pieces define 88 fine steps of attenuation for the analog attenuation circuit which switches through a series of independent high-quality resistors for each channel. With LECUA-EX, Luxman handles the delicate analog signal with tender care to ensure maximum musical resolution.

The Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System, or LIFES, is at the heart of the pre- and power-amp circuits in the flagship L-509Z integrated amplifier. Luxman has always pioneered the use of proprietary feedback systems in their amplifiers, and this system is the result of a complete redesign of these complex systems. First seen in 2021 in their flagship M10X power amplifier, this circuit plays a huge role in the natural sound character of Luxman amplifiers. In the L-509Z, LIFES allows Luxman to achieve separates-level performance in one single high-end integrated amplifier.

A fanatical level of detail can be found not only in the components and circuit design of the Luxman L-509Z, but also in the construction of layout of the individual circuit boards. When you listen to the L-509Z, the degree of purity and clarity is astonishing, almost unnerving. This is partly the result of the circuit boards, which feature “beeline” topology, ensuring the shortest path for delicate audio signals. Smooth signal transmission is also aided by non-angled wiring patterns. All of this care is taken to ensure that your favourite music is delivered with all of the emotion and intensity that the artists and engineers intended.
