The Creative Audio Review

The “mini system” category is awash with uninspiring, poorly built dreck (in our opinion). This Denon system, however, is a welcome exception. Taking up no more space than a few books, the Denon offers a lot of functionality: a 30 watt per channel amplifier with built-in CD player, AM/FM tuner, and Bluetooth. It also includes an analog input and two optical digital inputs for additional connectivity. The main amplifier unit is notably substantial with a degree of fit and finish utterly uncommon in this category. The amplifier is very capable, having the power to deliver music with authority and, most importantly, enthusiasm. ‘Delightful’ is not a word we normally associate with mini systems, but it is wholly appropriate here. The little Denon is a cracker, and sounds great whether you’re spinning a CD, listening to the radio, or streaming from your phone. What makes this system work is the included speaker system. They may be small, but the speakers include a 4 3/4” woofer and 1” tweeter to provide as full range a sound as is physically possible from such a small package. It should be obvious that won’t be rocking the whole house with a system this small, but within its capabilities, the Denon D-M41 never fails to put a smile on the face of all who hear it. Recommended, enthusiastically, without hesitation.

Creative Audio Pro Tips

The Denon D-M41 will sound great right out of the box but it will sound even better after 50-100 hours of use.
Ensure there is at least 3 inches of clearance above the amplifier for adequate ventilation and never place it in a closed cabinet.
