With its use of cutting-edge materials, straightforward design principles, and unrelenting focus on minimizing the impact of vibration to extract maximal information out of record grooves, the Rega Planar 10 is easily one of the best turntables I have ever heard, regardless of price.

Exacting

To minimise unwanted vibration, you must minimise mass. The Rega Planar 10 plinth is constructed from an ultra-lightweight polyurethane foam core. That core is then sandwiched between two layers of extremely thin and rigid high-pressure laminate. The end result is a plinth that is almost unbelievably light while also incredibly rigid. That rigidity is reinforced with the dual ceramic brace that stiffens the plinth between the main bearing and the tonearm bearing.

Driven

A low-mass central bearing assembly, mounted to eliminate unwanted potential energy from being transferred to the plinth is the foundation of the Rega Planar 10’s platter design. A 24V low-vibration motor is hand-tuned to its own custom-matched outboard PL10 power supply which drives the motor with precision. Rotational energy is transferred to the sub-platter via two EBLT drive belts, made of a custom rubber compound cryogenically treated and cured to perfection. A heavy flywheel platter made from ceramic oxide powder that is compressed, fired, and diamond cut to absolute perfection holds your precious vinyl albums, presenting them to the reference-grade RB3000 tonearm and mounted cartridge.

Precise

Less than 1,000th of a millimetre. That’s the tolerance level of the hand-assembled RB3000 tonearm on the Rega Planar 10. Friction-free bearings with no play whatsoever allow the needle to trace fine ridges in your record’s grooves of less than a micron to be read. Rega’s legendary one-piece, cast, tapered arm tube minimises mass and unwanted resonances. Every single aspect of the tonearm’s design allows the Rega Planar 10 to deliver a truly reference-level analog experience.

Sound Advice

  • The Rega Planar 10 will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 25-50 hours of use, when the cartridge has had a chance to break in.

  • Before playing, you should always remove any surface dust from the record using a quality anti-static carbon fibre record brush.
