Summary

Winner of the 2022 Editor’s Choice Awards by The Absolute Sound, this is the latest version of Rogue Audio’s all-analog, all-tube integrated amplifier. Handbulit in America, it continues to outperform amplifiers at much higher prices.

In detail

Vacuum tube amplifiers are known for three things: expense, heat, and glorious music. In the case of the Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum III, only the heat and music apply. In this, the third generation of their award-winning all-tube integrated amplifier, Rogue Audio continues to offer an amplifier of stunning musical performance at a previously unheard of price.

It definitely generates a lot of heat - all tube amps do - so it will keep your listening room toasty on a cold Winnipeg winter’s night. You’ll also be warmed on the inside by its incredibly engaging musical character. If you’ve never experienced the magic of tubes before, you’re in for a real treat.

There is also a significant amount of power on tap in this amplifier and the Cronus Magnum III can drive difficult speaker loads with ease. The built-in phono input has accommodation for both moving magnet (MM) and moving coil (MC) cartridges.

Sound Advice

  • The Rogue Audio Cronus Magnum III will sound great right out of the box but will sound its best after 100 hours of use, when the tubes and other components have had a chance to break in.

  • This amplifier generates a significant amount of heat and requires open-air ventilation.
