If you’re like most, you plug your turntable into the ‘Phono’ input on your amplifier or receiver and don’t think any more about it. To do so would be doing a great disservice to your record collection, however. That ‘Phono’ input is connected to a special device called a phono preamplifier and it is actually a critical component in the vinyl replay chain.
