The Creative Audio Review

The Marantz PM7000N is one of our favourites because it is a rare breed in the world of more affordable amplifiers in that it is chock-full of features but also sounds ridiculously good. The built-in HEOS streaming gives easy access to all the major online streaming services. Of course we would recommend a hi-res service such as TIDAL, allowing the PM7000N to really show its chops. Equally at home with Tool and Tchaikovsky, the sound is classic Marantz: detailed, rich, and engaging. There’s a sparkle to the sound here, which makes you want to keep on listening. We find it just as entertaining when using the built-in MM phono input. You’ll always get more performance out of your turntable with a dedicated outboard phono preamp, but the point is the one in the PM7000N is damn good and helps Marantz make the argument for this as the best all-in-one, just add speakers solution at the price point. We love it, and you’ll love it too.

Sound Advice

  • The Marantz PM7000N will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound even better after 50-100 hours of use.

  • We always recommend quality speaker cable to get the most out of your amplifier.

Marantz PM7000N Technical Specifications

We provide this information from the manufacturer for those who want to know or who find it interesting. In our opinion, however, you shouldn’t pay too much heed to technical specs. How a component reacts to test tones in a lab bears little relation to how it will sound at home playing music, a far more complex and nuanced signal than any test tone. Knowledge is power and the best knowledge is not how a component ‘sounds’ to a computer, but how it sounds to you.
