The Focal Kanta No. 2 has always been popular in our showroom and it’s easy to see (and hear!) why. The design is eye-catching and yet subtle, with perfect proportions and a variety of finish options to ensure it can blend in with any decor. Most importantly, this is an absolutely stunning sounding loudspeaker.

We could go on at length about the amazing pure beryllium tweeter, which always astonishes us with its ability to eek out so much detail without every getting bright or hard. Or we could talk about the bass, which goes shockingly deep and yet is never flabby but rather always tuneful and controlled. Then of course there is the midrange - the most important range, as this is where the vocals are to be found - which is reproduced with lifelike accuracy and is beautifully integrated with the frequency extremes. Yes, we could talk about all of that but instead we’d like to talk about scale.

This speaker has a nifty trick up its sleeve: it never imposes itself on the music but rather always reproduces music, and in particular the scale of the music, as it was recorded. Play a track like Hans Zimmer’s ‘The Battle’ from the Gladiator soundtrack - an all-out assault of movie music - and the Focal Kanta No. 2 will throw you back in your chair but never lose control even for a moment. Then, try a small jazz trio and instantly the Kanta No. 2 scales down and you will feel like you’re sitting in an intimate jazz club.

This versatility makes this one of the best premium speakers you could choose for your system, no matter what your musical tastes are.

Sound Advice

  • The Focal Kanta No. 2 will sound great right out of the box, but it will sound better after 100 - 150 hours of use.

  • For best results, we recommend a minimum of 24” of distance from the back wall to the back of the speaker.

  • We recommend high performance speaker cable to get the most out of your system.
