The Creative Audio Review
DALI’s Oberon 5 is one of the most popular speakers in our showroom. For those living in smaller spaces like condos and apartments, its their size that catches many an eye; they are wonderfully small with very attractive proportions. Of course, an assumption is quickly made about their sound based on their size, but you know what they say about assumptions. In fact, the Oberon 5 are an absolute delight and can fill even a larger space with their glorious sound. What often happens when we demo these speakers in our showroom is one quickly forgets they are demoing speakers and instead just get lost in the music. This is the magic of the Oberon 5: you forget you’re listening to a speaker because all you hear is the music. It is for this reason, combined with their absolutely adorable looks, that they are best buy among affordable floorstanding speakers. Recommended without hesitation!
Sound Advice
The DALI Oberon 5 speakers will sound great from the moment you start playing them, but they will sound even better after 50+ hours of use, when the drivers have been broken in.
Do experiment with placement of the DALI Oberon 5 with respect to the back wall. More distance from the back wall will ease congestion in the midrange and upper bass frequencies. We recommend a minimum of 12”.
A good quality speaker wire with banana plug connectors will give the DALI Oberon 5 the opportunity to sound its best.
DALI Oberon 5 Technical Specifications
We provide this information from the manufacturer for those who want to know or who find it interesting. In our opinion, however, you shouldn’t pay too much heed to technical specs. How a component reacts to test tones in a lab bears little relation to how it will sound at home playing music, a far more complex and nuanced signal than any test tone. Knowledge is power and the best knowledge is not how a component ‘sounds’ to a computer, but how it sounds to you.
