The Creative Audio Review
Fun is the word that comes to mind when listening to these speakers. Despite their compact size, they really do pack an awesome sonic punch. We love seeing the expressions of surprise and delight when we demo them in our showroom. Compared to DALI’s entry-level Spektor 1, the Oberon 1 is superior in every single sense. The bass is what surprises people most, and not just because of the depth but also its speed and control. This is not a small speaker that tries too hard, but rather it gets it just right. DALI’s tweeter in the Oberon series offers up significantly more fine detail, bringing a greater sense of space to the soundstage. Vocals are reproduced with neutrality and speed. In fact ‘speed’ might be the best word to sum up the Oberon 1: they have a great sense of timing which makes the music sound inherently ‘right’. We love them and recommend them without hesitation. For a larger space or if you just like a bit more extension in the bass, the larger Oberon 3 is the speaker for you.
Sound Advice
The DALI Oberon 1 speakers will sound great from the moment you start playing them, but they will sound even better after 50+ hours of use, when the drivers have been broken in.
With a compact bookshelf speaker such as the DALI Oberon 1, placement closer to the back wall will help reinforce bass frequencies for a fuller sound at all volume levels.
A good quality speaker wire with banana plug connectors will give the DALI Oberon 1 the opportunity to sound its best.
DALI Oberon 1 Technical Specifications
We provide this information from the manufacturer for those who want to know or who find it interesting. In our opinion, however, you shouldn’t pay too much heed to technical specs. How a component reacts to test tones in a lab bears little relation to how it will sound at home playing music, a far more complex and nuanced signal than any test tone. Knowledge is power and the best knowledge is not how a component ‘sounds’ to a computer, but how it sounds to you.
